Special Effects Makeup 🎨
Once a year, my favorite holiday comes around: Halloween! Don’t believe the Christmas hype conspiracy, Halloween truly is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s a day to be cozy, spooky, silly, clever, lazy, hopped up on sugar (or booze!), or anything else you want to be. It’s also the one time of year I have a good reason to pull out my special effects makeup tools and have some fun! Here are a few makeups I’ve done over the years.
🔫 2016
BFFs: GoldiGlocks & Little Dead Riding Hood, complete with face-rending wolf claw wounds.
2017 📣
Y’know that one cheerleader in high school with the crazy eyes? Yeah, maybe stay away from her…
🧟 2018
Did you know that a zombie bite is not a “valid medical reason” to be excused from work in the state of California? Fortunately, the problem resolved itself…eventually.
2019 🧸
My favorite makeup I’ve ever done! I followed this scary teddy makeup tutorial by Bonnie Corban SFX on YouTube and not only did it come out better than imagined, but it also taught me a ton of new techniques that I’ve been using ever since! Unfortunately, I must disclose that one teddy bear was mangled in the making of this look. 🪦
2020 📍
Who do that voodoo? Well, I do! Went for a little tack-through-the-face action here. A little lazy, but fun.
2021 🧜♀️
Oh look! It’s everyone’s favorite character: mermaid-sea-monkey-fish-girl! Had some fun with color (and gills!) this year.
👹 2022
We did the Monster Mash and it was––you guessed it—a graveyard smash. Rawr.
2023 🐍
Channeled my inner Medusa this year. And yes, that is a snake coming out of my face.
🩰 2024
They say beauty is only skin deep, so I took a look at what’s beneath. Turns out, it’s pretty gnarly down there.
2025 🧹
“I’m not a witch, I’m yer wife!” …OK, well maybe I’m also a witch too. So what?
